Canada-wide Study of Massage Therapy
A recent Ipsos Reid survey, “Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Canada: Trends in Use and Public Attitudes, 1997 – 2006”, showed that Canadians’ use of massage therapy outranked both chiropractic care and acupuncture as alternative treatments.

Do you Qualify for a Scholarship?
The Cory Mintz Scholarship Fund is awarded annually to a new enrollee at CCMH or WCCMT who has demonstrated leadership qualities through past dedication to activities in his or her community.

  • We are leaders in Massage Therapy research. CCMH's Executive Director, Dr. Kathleen Jacques, has been named as a principal researcher in a pilot study undertaken with Dalhousie University's Department of Health Sciences and the Nova Scotia Hospital's Addictions Unit. This study has been awarded a significant research grant from the Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada in conjunction with the Massage Therapy Research Fund.
  • Canadian Registered Massage Therapists are highly qualified health care practitioners. We are among the best trained in the world and have a very high international reputation.
  • The self-employment rate for Registered Massage Therapists is exceptionally high - among the top for all employment categories. Registered Massage Therapists are also employed in a variety of settings, including physiotherapy and chiropractic clinics, sports and recreation facilities, spas, resorts and cruise ships.
  • Soft Tissue accounts for 85% of human pain. For example, back and neck pain are mainly due to muscular imbalance. Registered Massage Therapists specialize in Soft Tissue conditions.
  • Headaches are mainly due to soft tissue dysfunction…tight neck and back muscles. Other conditions which may be successfully resolved or alleviated by therapeutic massage include repetitive strain and athletic injuries, whiplash, osteoarthiriis pain, painful or fatigued shoulder muscles, postural abnormalities (related to soft tissue imbalances), stress, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.
  • The majority of Massage Therapy clients are covered by extended benefit insurance. In Nova Scotia, over 10,000 members of the Teacher's Union are fully covered for Massage Therapy sessions.
